Toddler Sleep Drama:

6 weeks of waking up multiple times a night

My little boy Patrick. Lovingly nicknamed, Patrick the Monster, recently. This little boy was my sleeping angel. I learned my lesson from his older brother. Sleep training is key! So we started sleep training at 7 months, even though he slept through the night at 2 months old. Well, he was breastfed and still woke up once a night/early morning for a nursing session, then back to sleep. At 7 months, he was put into his crib tired and would fall asleep on his own. If we traveled or he was sick I had to re-train him, but he ALWAYS got back on his schedule. Then we went on vacation in June. [dun, dun, dunnn] This little boy learned how to climb out of his pack n play and since it was next to the bed, would just climb up and sleep with me.

Once we returned home, I thought we would go back to our normal routine, the crib was so much bigger and seemed harder to get out of. NOPE! Patrick climbed out the first night back and continued to for a week. So we converted his crib to the toddler bed. Woof. He’s giving us such a hard time!

Older Brother Anthony was a pro at transitioning. He crawled at 5.5 months, pulled himself up at 6.5 months, walked at 9.5 months, took the pacifier away in a night at 22 months, changed his toddler bed at 27 months, potty trained in a couple weeks at 29 months, and he’s been in a full size bed since his 3rd birthday.

I have to keep reminding myself that he IS NOT even TWO yet. We converted his bed at 22 months old, 5 months earlier than we did with his brother, Anthony. I have tried every method of getting him to sleep and stay asleep. I have been consistent and calm (as long and as much as my patience lets me). Is this a sleep regression? Usually they are at 18 months or 2 years? It’s so frustrating knowing that he was such a good sleeper and his brother sleeps so well, and now THIS! …. This looks like it will be a long process… wish me luck.
